Democracy Over Dollars
Fixing the System
I will support all laws that meaningfully address the corruptive influence of money in our political system.
-
The number one issue in fixing money corruption in politics is overturning Citizens United. This will require a constitutional amendment. The process will be difficult, because big money does not want to see the system change. As your Senator, I will fight to get this process started.
-
I will propose a law that restricts how funds can be used from Leadership PACs and make their expenditure more transparent to the voters. These slush funds are a major source of legal corruption within our government and must be addressed.
Ask Roger Marshall to disclose exactly where he spent his million dollars over the last five years. Certainly, it wasn’t spent back in Kansas.
-
I will fight for laws that eliminate ALL stock trading by members of Congress and the Executive Branch, including their staff and families.
-
I will propose a law that prevents ALL members of our government from lobbying for at least six years from leaving their offices. Until our politicians redirect their attention back to us – and not their funders – we will continue to see their votes reflect the will of those with the most money.
-
I will propose a law that removes all privileges to access within our capital for former members of government that become lobbyists. If an average citizen cannot access it, neither should a lobbyist.
-
We must strengthen donor disclosure laws that make it hard to hide who is paying for electioneering. It is time we know who is funding our campaigns.
-
I will propose a law that makes it mandatory that any industry group whose language is included in a bill be prominently highlighted for everyone to see, before a vote is taken on a bill.
-
I will work to create a federal mechanism where all public companies must disclose ALL their political spending in quarterly reports, including lobbying and to which candidates and PACs and make it available for us all to see.
-
I will advocate for a balanced budget requirement that forces our elected politicians to make decisions they must explain and stand behind, back home. Too many politicians are sacrificing our future to satisfy their own selfish interest in accumulating power and money for themselves.
-
I will fight to fill all the inspector general positions that President Trump fired within two weeks of taking office. An act that Roger Marshall endorsed. I will fight to create protections to ensure these watchdogs are never allowed to be politicized again.
-
I will work to pass a law that makes E-Verify a national law and fund the technological upgrades needed to make this as pain-free for businesses as possible.
-
I will propose a law to limit non-compete clauses for most businesses. This tool has morphed from protection for very specific industries to a catch-all that companies use to trap their workers from leaving on their own and fairly competing. This will encourage entrepreneurship and help to fuel our next generation’s businesses.
-
I will propose funding for community-building projects that help to unite us as Kansans and Americans. I want to help start the process of us coming together and realizing our fellow citizens are not enemies. Money has divided us and money will be spent to unite us. Country fairs, fishing clinics, hunter safety clinics, socials…bring us ideas and we will consider them!
